The Wild South between ocean, waterfalls & lava
The south coast, raw and spectacular: black sand beaches, coves and pools, waterfalls of the Langevin river, lava cliffs and Bourbon vanilla. Complimentary morning snack.
The south coast, in the raw
The Wild South is the untamed face of Reunion Island: a coast beaten by the ocean, where the sand turns black, where waterfalls tumble to the sea and where lava has flowed right to the waves. Between secret coves, freshwater pools, volcanic cliffs and Bourbon vanilla plantations, a day of striking contrasts.
Your day in the Wild South
Heading for the Wild South
Pick-up at your accommodation — early start recommended, not mandatory. We head south, where the landscape grows rawer and more volcanic with every kilometre.

Grande Anse & Manapany-les-Bains
The paradise beach of Grande Anse and its protected pool, then the cove of Manapany-les-Bains and its natural pool. This is where we share the complimentary morning snack, facing the ocean.

The Langevin river & the Grand Galet waterfall
Up the Langevin river, between turquoise pools and waterfalls. The highlight: the Grand Galet waterfall (Langevin), spilling in dozens of ribbons of water — one of the most photogenic on the island.

Cap Méchant
Jagged black lava cliffs where the ocean crashes in bursts of spray. A raw, powerful spectacle, emblematic of the Wild South.

Lunch optional
At a restaurant, or with a stop at a good bakery or snack bar we know to put together your picnic. Lunch is not included in the price (see the options below).

Saint-Philippe & Bourbon vanilla optional
A visit to a Bourbon vanilla plantation in Saint-Philippe (L’Escale Bleue or a partner plantation), to understand the craft that made the island famous. Admissions indicative, optional.

The Route des Laves, the Grand Brûlé & return
Crossing the Grand Brûlé on the Route des Laves, amid the recent flows of Piton de la Fournaise that covered the road all the way to the ocean. Then a relaxed return to your accommodation.

Bring your swimsuit
The pools of the Langevin river are perfect for a swim: bring a swimsuit and towel. Swimming in the sea, however, is not advised on this coast, exposed to a strong swell — your driver will point out the safe spots.
Cruise passengers: adapted tour
This tour is open to you: we adjust the itinerary to your latest return time to the ship so you see as many sites as possible. Some stops that take longer to reach — such as the Grand Galet waterfall, upstream on the Langevin river — may be shortened or replaced depending on time.
