A journey into another world
Heading up into the heights of Reunion Island to discover the Piton de la Fournaise massif. We climb through landscapes that change with every bend: forests, high-altitude meadows, then the pure mineral world of the Plaine des Sables. Your driver-guide tells you the island’s volcanic story and stops at the finest viewpoints, at your own pace.
Your day at the Volcano
Nez de Bœuf viewpoint
First panoramic stop above the Rivière des Remparts valley, a spectacular gorge several hundred metres deep. This is where we share the complimentary morning snack.
Commerson Crater
One of the most impressive craters on the island: a chasm about 250 m deep, often wrapped in mist, with sheer walls.
The Plaine des Sables
A vast ochre-and-black mineral expanse, an almost Martian setting unique to Reunion Island. We drive through a landscape that feels like another planet.
The Pas de Bellecombe
The legendary viewpoint, facing Piton de la Fournaise and the Enclos Fouqué. A breathtaking view of the volcano’s cone and its frozen lava flows.
Lunch optional
Lunch break of your choice: at a restaurant, or with a stop along the way at a good bakery or snack bar we know, to put together your picnic and enjoy it up in the heights. Lunch is not included in the price (see the options below).
La Cité du Volcan en option
An interactive museum entirely devoted to volcanism, perfect for understanding what you’ve just seen. Admission as a guide: 9 € adult / 6 € reduced, not included.
Return along the wild coast
Time permitting, we descend toward the rocky coast and the black sand beaches along the ocean, before heading back to your accommodation.
Good to know: dress warmly
At the top, the altitude exceeds 2,000 m: at dawn it can be between 5 and 10 °C, even in midsummer. Bring a jumper or jacket, good shoes and water — we take care of the rest.
On a cruise or a port call?
We adjust the itinerary and stops according to your latest return time to the ship and the day’s traffic: depending on conditions, some places may be dropped or replaced so you can re-board on time. On this tour, we recommend a picnic rather than a restaurant — you save time and see as many sites as possible.

As a picnic
Along the way, we stop at a bakery or snack bar we know — known for their good products — to buy lunch once we reach the heights. Flexible, friendly and local.
